Area Canoe Routes
Peshtigo River
(20 miles from Little Pine)
Put in at Big Joe Canoe Landing and float to CCC Bridge. 7.5 miles. Nice stretch of quiet water. Good for the novice of families.
Put in at CCC Bridge and float to Burnt Bridge. 9.5 miles. For intermediate canoeists. Several rocky stretches with rapids.
Put in at Burnt Bridge and float to Burton Wells. 5.75 milews. Contain Class II, III and IV rapids. One portage.
Put in at Burton Wells. Float 6.25 miles. Contains Class II, III, and IV raipds. One mandatory portage.
Pine River
(10 miles from Little Pine)
Put in at FS road 2182. 20 miles. Slow, winding up to Hwy 55. Faster with a few difficult rapids after Hwy 55. Trout fishing.
Put in at FS road 2168. 18 miles. Escellent trout fishing. Several rapids. Portage around a dam. Picnic area and camping area on route. Some boulders.
Popple River
(10 miles from Little Pine)
Put in at Hwy 55 north of Argonne. Water must be high. Two undeveloped campsites on route. Brown and brook trout fishing. Very secluded area. One portage, few rapids.
Wolf River
(5 miles from Little Pine)
Put in at Pine Lake (3 miles from Little Pine). 10 miles. Small stream. Water should be medium high. A few riffle rapids and occasional beaver dams. Eagle, deer and small mammals are common sights. Secluded area.

Argonne Forest Trail (2 miles from Little Pine)
Located 1.5 miles east of Hiles on Hwy 32 to Forest Road 2184 to trailhead. Self-guided three-quarter loop trail features northern hardwoods and forest management. Has 17 stops
Franklin Lake Trail (25 miles from Little Pine)
Located 9 miles east of Eagle River on Hwy 70 to Forest Road 2178, then south on 2178 for 3 miles to Forest Road 2181, then east on 2181 for 5 miles to trailhead. 1 miles interpretive loop that goes through tamarack swamp, hemlock cathedral and 300-year old white pines.
Scott Lake Trail and Shelp Lake Trail
(11 miles from Little Pine)
From Hiles head south on Hwy 32 to Forest Road 2174, then north on 2174 for 5.5 miles to Forest Road 2183, then east on 2183 for 6 miles to trailhead on south side of 2183. One-third mile trail. Walk among large diameter white pines, hemlocks and hardwoods. Shelp Lake Trail is on north side of 2183. Takes you out over a floating bog.
The town of Hiles allows ATV's on all town roads. There are over 200 miles of town roads where ATV's can ride. Many roads through the Nicolet National Forest. And you can walk right outside your door and begin your ATV ride.See rivers, animals. and birds. But, please follow safe riding practices and speed limit signs.
